Transgender Surgery and Impact on the Gynecology Office

 Dr. Christine McGinn

Dr. Christine McGinn, DO

Dr. McGinn is a board certified plastic surgeon whose formal training was tailored specifically to transgender surgery. Since her own transition in 2000, she has been an activist and speaker on many aspects of gender variant issues. She has twice served as DOD Flight Surgeon for NASA shuttle missions while serving in the US NAVY as well as a National Advisory Council member to former Surgeon General, David Satcher. She is frequently called upon by television and print media as an expert in her field: Her contributions include 2011 award winning documentaries “TRANS” and “Game Face”, “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, “Dr. OZ, CNN, The New York Times, “Anderson Cooper” and as technical advisor for Oscar nominated “The Danish Girl”. She is the founder of Papillon Gender Wellness Center; a comprehensive gender support “co-op” that includes many professional services in addition to Plastic Surgery. Dr. McGinn is also active in teaching transgender issues at Universities and Medical Schools. Her focus is not only on providing plastic and reconstructive surgery, but also to promote the importance of a holistic approach to the care of gender variant individuals to include preventive medicine, research, community outreach, primary care and therapeutic support systems. Of special interest to Dr. McGinn are long-term outcomes to gender confirmation surgery and contra- hormone therapy as they relate to improved quality of life and sexual health for gender variant individuals. Dr. McGinn has been performing pro-bono surgery for active duty military members since their attempted disqualification in 2016. Striving to disarm political theater, the military program has emphatically demonstrated through example that gender care can easily dovetail into a cost effective deployable fighting force.
