2011 Phila Prenatal Diagnosis Update Brochure
This two-day conference is aimed at bringing the clinician up-to-date in the rapidly advancing field of genetics and prenatal diagnosis and obstetrics complications. Current screening and testing recommendations, as well as cutting edge technology and research, will be presented. In addition, current management of complicated pregnancies and update on new recommendations for prenatal care will be presented. The course on obstetrics complications will be aimed at obstetricians,nurses-midwives and health care professionals caring for the pregnant patients.
Target Audience
This activity has been designed for practicing obstetricians, perinatologists, family practitioners, midwives, genetic counselors, ultrasonographers, nurses and other applicable health practitioners.

The Obstetrical Society of Philadelphia sponsored the second annual “Quality Improvement Initiatives in Obstetrical Care” forum on March 5, 2011.
This meeting was made possible from a generous grant by Dolores Smith of the March of Dimes. This forum was a follow up from last years successful initial program that highlighted eleven institutions from all over the state presenting innovative Quality Initiatives. This year’s program focused on data and outcomes. There were presentations from 8 institutions who had presented last year as well as a stimulating presentation from Geisinger on “Process Redesign and Outcomes in Ob Care”. Once again the program was at the Zubrow Auditorium in Pennsylvania Hospital.

On March 10th, Linda Bradley an internationally recognized gynecologic surgeon known for her expertise in diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy and endometrial ablation, gave a stimulating lecture to the Obstetrical Society of Philadelphia. “Amendment to the bylaws regarding membership”
During our next meeting on February 10th 2011 we will vote on the following amendment to the Bylaws:
INACTIVE MEMBERS: Active or Associate Members who for MEDICAL REASONS retire completely from practice or functioning as a physician in any capacity, shall upon their written request, be granted status as Inactive Members pursuant to duly adopted resolution of Council. Inactive members shall not pay dues. The privilege of voting or holding office will require resumption of active status.”

Pitfalls of EMR
My practice began implementation of an office based electronic medical record (EMR) about six months ago. It has been a slow and sometimes frustrating process. Perhaps I am being shortsighted, but I do not consider myself a dinosaur. I have yet to experience the upside of the endeavor. I am not certain that we will meet the requirements for a government subsidy for achieving the “meaningful use” criteria as defined by lawmakers (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, December 2009).
